Hannah's story

Hannah is our Head Brand Ambassador for the Brighton Hotspot Project. She runs a team of University students, who together spread the ShelterBox message throughout Brighton and Hove. We spoke to her about what it means to volunteer for ShelterBox.

What inspires you to volunteer?

'I really love ‘giving something back’. ShelterBox is a fantastic charity, who do incredible work, spread a really positive message and offer hope to so many. I am so grateful to be able to give some of my time back to ShelterBox. After finishing my degree, I really hope to be able to have a career in International Development and Disaster Relief, as I want to make a positive impact. ShelterBox allows me to run my own team, learn skills and have fun – all whilst supporting a great cause!'

What do you enjoy the most volunteering for ShelterBox?

'Volunteering for ShelterBox really feels like I am part of a big community. I love the weekly Facebook Live where I can see what a powerful impact we are having, and hear about all of our successes in that week. With ShelterBox, no contribution goes unnoticed. I love supporting my Brighton team and helping to make a difference; they have so much enthusiasm and passion!'

What has been the most surprising thing about volunteering?

'Volunteering has given me such a positive outlook; I was really surprised about just how much I could love this charity! I find myself thinking about ShelterBox on a daily basis, and I feel so proud to be able to be a part of it!'

Describe what volunteering for ShelterBox means to you in one word.

'Proud.'

Is there one memory that stands out for you about volunteering?

'My happiest memory from my time with ShelterBox was when I had just started. My wonderful mentor Toluwa, told me that our small team of Brighton volunteers had been able to get 15,000 people from Brighton and Hove to check-out the ShelterBox website! In just a couple of months they have made so much progress, I couldn’t be prouder! I am so excited to continue volunteering for ShelterBox, and I look forward to creating more memories with them.'
