By going the extra mile and organising an event to raise funds for ShelterBox, you’re helping us reach disaster-affected families all around the world.
It was a pleasure to run a thriving and engaging visitor experience in Cornwall. Since opening in 2017, we welcomed over 20,000 visitors through the doors to learn about the issues people face after disaster and how emergency shelter is a vital part of recovery.
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in making the centre a success, from our incredible volunteers and staff, to Rotary groups and local schools, businesses and other organisations. We think you are amazing.
During this pandemic, our priority must be to protect visitors, volunteers, and our staff as well as considering the safety of the families that we serve around the world. The closure of the visitor centre is one of a number of measures we are taking to make to ensure we are working safely and managing costs. Find out more here.
Since opening three years ago, the ShelterBox Visitor Centre was a thriving visitor experience in Truro. In that time, we welcomed over 20,000 visitors through our doors.
We are enormously grateful for the support we have received from so many people, from our incredible volunteers and local schools, to Rotary groups, businesses and other organisations.
The centre offered visitors a hands-on experience, with the chance to meet members of the ShelterBox team.
We have enjoyed being a well-loved part of Truro for both visitors to Cornwall and our local community.
One of our highlights was when our President, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, opened the centre three years ago.
In 2017, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall met many of our volunteers and fundraisers at the Visitor Centre launch event.
A firm favourite for school children who came to the Visitor Centre was trying out the rickshaw!
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall spoke with 87-year-old Alison Midwood, who zip wired across the Eden Project to raise money for ShelterBox.
In celebration of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall’s 70th birthday, we enjoyed a cake in the shape of a ShelterBox!
In 2018 we hosted the ‘Hope and Strength‘ photography exhibition, featuring photos from photographers Dougie Wallace, Veronique de Viguerie, Tom Stoddart and Olly Burn.
Visitors could step in to the world of disaster response and discover what it took to respond to disasters around the world.
