April – June 2005: Tsunami, Serbia, Uganda


26th June:
Containers holding 860 boxes dispatched by sea to Lira in northern Uganda to accommodate widows and orphans – war refugees from Sudan & persons displaced by the Lord's Resistance Army. Boxes distributed through All Nations Christian Care.

20th June: At the request of Rotary Club of Preston 10 boxes were sent to Ukraine Christian Ministries to assist with rehabilitation camps for underprivileged and disabled children/orphans.

19th June: 1,500 Boxes have been sent to the island of Medan in Northern Sumatra.

8th May: Rotary Club of Zrenjanin in Serbia requested 30 boxes to assist people made homeless by severe flooding – more than 300 houses were washed away and 3,000 people made homeless. Boxes sent overland.

7th May: 300 ShelterBoxes have been sent to Sinalue island west of Sumatra. The need was spotted by BT who were working on communications and requested through Oxfam who distributed them together with our team.

24th April: Oxfam has delivered 300 boxes to the port of Gunungsitoli on the island of Nias, off the west coast of Sumatra, for distribution to earthquake victims.

22nd  April: Two ShelterBox teams are now working in Indonesia, where 2,000 boxes have just been distributed by Oxfam. These boxes have been so effective that Oxfam have requested another 1,000, of which the first 300 are now being packed ready for transportation.

15th April: 2,000 ShelterBoxes containing 4,000 tents have just been unloaded from an Antonov cargo aircraft in Medan, Northern Sumatra, by Oxfam, who specifically requested the aid package for this area. Half of these boxes are bound for Nias Island to assist following the recent earthquake; the other 1,000 are being moved to Banda Aceh to assist relocating people displaced by the tsunami.
