Chrystal and Bingo put in the miles for ShelterBox

A teenager and her dog have gone the extra mile for charity helping to raise a total of £2,500 for ShelterBox and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Thirteen-year-old Chrystal Petvin from Bude and her dog Bingo’s fundraising effort was part of a sponsored dog walk organised by the Bude and North Cornwall Dog Training Group.

The walk began at the popular surfing beach in Widemouth Bay. The walkers then headed north on the coastal path to Summerleaze beach and the infamous Compass point. The eight-mile walk ended back in Widemouth Bay at the Bay View Inn where the walkers and their dogs stopped for a well earned drink.

Kathleen Adams, trainer and mainstay of the group, raised £480 herself but was happy to play second fiddle to Chrystal and Bingo: ‘We’re all very appreciative of the work Chrystal has put in,’ she said.

‘We often hear bad news stories about young people but there are a lot of youngsters selflessly giving their time to help others. We’d like to thank Chrystal, her sister Carla and the whole Petvin family for supporting us so magnificently.’

All trainers and helpers in the Bude and North Cornwall Dog Training Group give their time for the benefit of local dog owners and to raise funds for charity.

ShelterBox fundraising officer Laura Jepson passed on her appreciation: ‘You’ve all been very busy fundraising for us and doing a fantastic job too, especially Chrystal and Bingo.’
