ShelterBox launches text donation service
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, ShelterBox was able to provide this girl and her family with shelter and lifesaving supplies after the earthquake in Chile earlier this year. Photograph: Andy GreenAs part of the 2010 Big Green Box Week, ShelterBox has launched a text donation service, allowing donors to pledge their support by a simple text message.
By texting the word BOXES to 70700 you can make a one-off £5 donation to help support families around the world who lose everything in a disaster. Your donation will help ShelterBox provide emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies to families affected by natural or manmade disasters.
ShelterBox Head of Fundraising, Becky Maynard, said: ‘During the Haiti earthquake, many of our donors told us they would’ve liked to been able to donate to ShelterBox through a text message.
‘This new service will allow our supporters to make a simple donation through their phone and help make the difference to the lives of families the world over.
‘We never know when the next disaster is going to strike and it’s vital we are ready to respond as quickly as possible. Funds generated through this campaign will allow us to retain the capacity to respond instantly to disaster of the magnitude of the Haiti earthquake.’

Texting BOXES to 70700 will cost a onetime donation of £5 plus your standard network messaging rate. Donations will help ShelterBox (Registered charity 1096479).
ShelterBox will receive at least £4.50 on all networks except Virgin Mobile, who will pay us £4.45 and Three, who will pay us £4.75. Please get the bill payers permission.
