Princess Pavilion hosts ShelterBox benefit
3 Daft Monkeys on the main stage at Princess PavilionFalmouth was at its finest last weekend when the town came together and raised close to £7,000 for local disaster relief charity ShelterBox. The day long fundraiser filled the Princess Pavilion with music and family fun.
The highlight was a sold out evening of live music, across three stages, from some of the regions best known bands. 3 Daft Monkeys, Mad Dog Mcrea, Hedluv and Wives of Farmers took to the Main Wtage, while The Buskateers, No-Set Sound, Colour Sun and others were on the Bar Stage.
A third smaller stage set in the Pavilion featured a Hang drum and Harp duet from Mana Hang and Simon Drinkwater. The whole event was broadcast live by Falmouth community radio station The SourceFM.
ShelterBox Response Team member Stuart Oates was at the concert and said: ‘Everyone pulled out all of the stops to make as much money as possible while having a great time. Many bands played for free and even bought their tickets to come in! It was very poignant that the gig was on the day that the devastating earthquake struck Chile.’
Earlier that afternoon the Pavilion was filled with over two hundred children; participating in face-painting, flag-making, Capoeira dancing and music in the sunny bandstand. At the same time musicians at six locations around town began “Busking for Haiti”.
With ShelterBox still working hard in Haiti and now responding to the huge earthquake in Chile the charity are incredibly grateful for all the support.
ShelterBox Fundraising Officer, James Webb, said: ‘This was an incredible event and amazing support yet again from the Cornwall community.
‘Our work in Haiti continues and now we have a team and ShelterBoxes on their way to Chile. The support and donations we’re receiving are absolutely vital and will allow us to maintain the capacity to respond to any disaster, wherever it strikes.’
