Rick Stacey is cycling the length of New Zealand.
Rick plans to cycle the 2,000km from New Zealand's South Island to the North Island in November 2010, towing the iconic ShelterBox behind his bike, raising funds as he goes.
His inspiration to make a difference to others follows his recent recovery from prostate cancer. The 65 year old father of five is regarded as a ‘swallow’, dividing his time between Kerikeri, New Zealand and Cornwall in the UK; indulging his love of fishing, tramping, kayaking and now cycling!
Rick’s journey is a new take on the British tradition of cycling or walking from one end of the country to the other. The classic ‘Lands End to John O’Groats’ challenge is around 1,400km. Rick’s journey is 600km further, taking him across both South and North Islands in a total of 2,000km.
His route will start at Bluff, on the South Island, and finish at Cape Reinga in the North.
Rick is establishing a network of Rotarians along the way as a practical support network, as well as helping him increase the donations that are essential to ShelterBox's disaster relief work.
