Delivering boxes to earthquake victims in Kashmire

FUNDING

ShelterBox relies entirely on donations to make our work possible – around half of our funds come direct from the UK public, the rest is raised on our behalf by Rotary clubs around the world

The support of volunteers also enables us to be very efficient. Our overheads are very low and around 90% of all income goes directly on the aid we provide.

Because all ShelterBoxes are individually numbered we are able to say exactly which box each donation has gone towards and where that box has been sent.

Donors can track this information via the Roll of Honour on this website.

Preparing for the next disaster

When disaster strikes, ShelterBox aims to get aid to the victims as fast as possible. That means we cannot wait for donations but have to draw immediately on existing resources.

We realise people sometimes hear about a disaster in the news and want their donation to go to that particular destination but by then our ShelterBoxes are often already on the way!

This means money raised following one disaster generally ends up being used to replenish stock ready for the next emergency – which could be in a completely different part of the world. (We also respond to many major events that never make the headlines but are just as big a disaster for those affected.)

ShelterBox operates on a totally non-partisan basis. We have no political or religious affiliation. Our priority is the victims of the disaster: families and individuals who have often lost their possessions and livelihoods as well as their homes.

Please note: For the reasons set out above, ShelterBox is unable to accept location and time specific donations.
